REVIEW: Odessa Ripley, the top CIA agent in her field, returns
home to finish her father’s last investigation before he was murdered.
While working with Phoenix’s Cold Case Squad, Odessa stumbles upon a
plot that revolves around the deaths of some of Phoenix’s most noted
activists. She also takes more than a passing interest in Sgt. Wyatt
Whitaker, whom her father planned to meet with before he was killed.
Odessa is a tough loner with a love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude, but
underneath all that bravado is a tender heart longing to be loved and
understood. Her line of work requires a cold heart and nerves of steel,
but Odessa has one nemesis that she can’t seem to conquer no matter how
hard she tries. Sgt. Wyatt Earp Whitaker, is the “rule bending” cowboy
who was transferred to the Cold Case Squad after he crossed the line one
time too many. Wyatt has also acquired the love ‘em and leave ‘em
attitude after his divorce, Odessa may be just what he needs to change
his tune.
The main and supporting characters have various emotional issues that
bond them together. Odessa and Wyatt are both head strong and
independent, and neither will allow anything to get in the way of them
solving a case. They are fiercely loyal to their family and friends, and
the feelings are mutual. Their friends do caution them about their
decisions but will support them no matter what. The plot is well thought
out, and the story transitions smoothly from one event to the next. All
of the characters are believable and fit easily into their respective
places.
A DANGEROUS WOMAN allows us to see how important relationships are in
our lives. It shows us how much we value the love and approval of our
parents, while letting us see how important it is to trust our friends
and family. J. M. Jeffries does an excellent job detailing the
intricacies of the characters relationships with each other. With the
exception of a little “too much” volleying back and forth between Wyatt
and his boss, this is a fast paced and interesting book.
