For
those of you who read Ms. Jackson’s HEART’S DESIRE, you’ll be pleased to see
that Taylor Cates and Stone Emerson finally get their own story. A MAGIC MOMENT is a story with many
elements. There’s drama, and suspense,
and even a touch of the paranormal. In
other words, there’s a lot about A MAGICAL MOMENT that is good and enjoyable.
One of the most important things in Taylor Cates’ life is
working at Helping Hands, a shelter for abused women. But when some of the husbands of women in the shelter turn up
dead, the shelter’s reputation and existence are in question. As things get worse, even Taylor is
considered a suspect. And to further complicate this situation, Taylor must
deal with Stone’s re-entering her life, a man she’s intensely attracted to but
who she feels is to unlike her. Taylor believes that she wants “a free spirit, someone
open to new ideas and vibes, interested in the same things she liked and
preferably vegetarian.” But Taylor
cannot deny the attraction between them, and she slowly begins to weaken. What further complicated things is that
Taylor is psychic, and is somehow connected to the killer. Taylor’s “seeing things” is hard for Stone
to believe, but he realizes that he has to protect the women he loves.
Presented
with disturbing accuracy is the plight of the abused female. The women in the shelter are vivid realistic
creations whose situation is so real that the reader cannot help but visualize
and understand the fear these women live every day. Ms. Jackson, however, does this without sentimentalizing their
plight. At no point does this issue
become melodramatic.
What is amazing about
A
MAGICAL MOMENT is that Ms. Jackson is able to successfully blend all these
elements giving the readers hours of pleasure.
With A MAGICAL MOMENT, Ms. Jackson has taken one big step forward.
