REVIEW:  Katrice Ware decided it was time to make a change and live her life the way she wanted to, so she dumped her fiancé, quit her job, and moved to Benton Lake. Lee Oliver is an attorney and a widower with a pre-teen daughter. After the death of his wife, Lee immersed himself in his work, leaving his daughter to the care of his trusted housekeeper and cook. Now he and his daughter are on vacation in Benton Lake, trying to repair their strained relationship. He meets Katrice when he agrees to allow his daughter to participate in a focus group for teens, and his attraction is immediate. Now all he has to do is figure out why Katrice gets angry every time they meet.

Katrice decides to use the money she inherited from her grandmother to live her dream of opening a bookstore. Her only wish is that her family would support her decision and stop trying to force her to live her life on their terms. It is because of this stress, and a relationship gone bad, that she rebuffs Lee’s attempts to get to know her. Lee has simply been existing since the death of his wife, but he finds a reason to move on when he meets Katrice. He realizes that his daughter needs her father, and he needs someone to love. Katrice and Lee are both strong characters who have to learn to trust and compromise.
I love the fact that Katrice took control of her life although there were times when she was unsure about her decisions. Lee was strong enough to support her no matter what, without allowing his bruised ego to stop him from pursuing her. He showed a great deal of patience in allowing her the space she needed to deal with her demons.

A PLACE LIKE HOME is a story about two people trying to find a home of their own. The story is set in Columbus, Ohio, and the surrounding areas. The author does a great job describing the peace and serenity of the settings. The plot has many twists and turns and a several characters that help steer the main characters in the right direction while teaching a few others the real meaning of family.

If you’ve ever fought to get away from controlling family members, had a significant other cheat on you, or decided to step out on faith and follow your dream; this story is for you.
