REVIEW:

If you’ve ever read a Courtni Wright romance, you’d know that her stories tend to have a lot of detail.  Sometimes her attention to detail adds to the story.  There are other times that she adds too much detail, detracting from the main plot.  I sometimes have felt that I was listening to a tour guide rather than reading a romance.  For RECIPE FOR LOVE there is good news.  This new release has a good balance of detail and romance.  Although Emma and Jordan’s story starts oFf rather slow, it picks up about a quarter of the way through and contains a few fun and exciting moments.

After a rocky marriage and subsequent divorce, Emma Jones starts her own catering business, EJ’s.  She is content with her life, her business keeps her busy and she has great friends.  She doesn’t have a special man in her life and believes that she’s better off.  She doesn’t need to depend on any one.  Or so she says…  Her best friend Bonnie thinks otherwise.  She decides that Emma needs a man in her life to feel complete.  Typical of a pushy (but loyal) best friend, Bonnie conspires with the city’s catch of the year to get Emma what she needs.  Dr. Jordan Everett is also a divorcee.  He is at a time in his life where he’s ready to have a woman with whom to share his newly found success.  He wants a wife and he’s sure Emma is the one to share forever with.

Initially the attraction between Emma and Jordan is mediocre at best.  When the romance quickly jumps from a mild courtship to them declaring their deep and forever love for each other, it’s a bit hard to believe.  I would have enjoyed a more insight into their attraction, more courting, more oomph!  “Love at first site” would have even been cool.  But the way this thing went down left me feeling like I missed something.  Just as Emma accepted that she was attracted to Jordan, they were making wedding plans.  Fortunately, the quick change in their relationship is not all bad.  This is also the point where the story gets interesting.

There are a few highlights in this story.  The light banter between Jordan and Emma made me smile.   The excitement even rises a notch when Jordan’s ex-wife, Gina, gets into the mix. Gina has decided to restate her claim to Jordan.  She’s not finished with him and has no problem letting everyone know.  Gina is the typical lying, cheating, conniving ex-wife.  When she embarks on a mission to win Jordan back, Emma and Jordan seem to develop more character.  At this point I began to really get into this book, I wanted to be a part of the happy ending.  (I probably just wanted to see the evil Gina get beat!)

Overall Emma and Jordan’s story was satisfactory.  However, you have to stick with this one.  The first few chapters were slow but after things pick up, the final experience is worth the wait.
