A SECOND HELPING - Beverly Jenkins

Harper Collins/Avon

0-06154-781-6

January 2010

SYNOPSIS: On the heels of BRING ON THE BLESSINGS, bestselling author Jenkins gives readers a second helping of the beautiful Kansas town of Henry Adams, and the residents who make it unique.

MAINSTREAM FICTION |4| Patricia Sykes-Brown

REVIEW: The historic black township of Henry Adams, Kansas is prospering as a result of the philanthropic benevolence of Bernadine Brown. As blessings abound and secrets are revealed, the foster and adoptive parents and children are thriving. Bernadine Brown had rescued this struggling financially depleted town she found on ebay. The original characters are more fully developed with glimpses into their own stories, as new members find their peace in Henry Adams.

Malachi July attempts to romance Bernadine Brown prove quite fruitful, but the arrival of the cheating ex Leo Brown causes quite a stir. Trent July and Lily Fontaine rekindle their romance, as he teaches Amari how to treat a lady. Then the arrival of Crystal’s biological father, Ray Chambers (alias Otis Miller) puts a snake in Eden whose Machiavellian plan is to romance Bernadine out of her millions. What is a high-powered bottom woman to do when she has three potential suitors?

Set in Kansas,
A SECOND HELPING is the sequel to BRING ON THE BLESSINGS. It is such a rich literary experience that leaves the reader anticipating even another sequel. The adventurous and colorful characters are very entertaining, comical, heartwarming, and loveable. This reviewer is having an extremely difficult time writing this review because the book was so rich with dramatic twists, turns, and adventure.

Beverly Jenkins continues her extraordinarily insightful look into the heart and soul of the descendants of the Dusters—July and Jefferson. You must read this book; it contains some really surprising revelations. I loved it and highly recommend
A SECOND HELPING.
