A SILVER SEASON - Linda Hudson-Smith

Harlequin Kimani/New Spirit

1-58314-585-0

November 2006

SYNOPSIS: A recently widowed Savannah Richmond moves to the outskirts of Los Angeles, hoping to rebuild her life. She learns that after the storm clouds and darkness pass, God provides a silver lining--the love, compassion, and generosity of others.

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE:  |3| Dee Stewart

REVIEW:  Forty something RN, Savannah Richmond has lived in her LA home with her husband, Geoffrey and their two children, Kenya and Kevin for twenty-five years. The children have grown up and moved on with their lives. And dear Geoffrey had passed two years ago. Savannah knew that her life was taking her toward a new place. She retired early from her nursing job, put her home up for sale, and cut her hair. Southern California had summoned her there to spend the “silver season” of her life. Once there she meets a very handsome, charming Antonio Delabay, Executive director of Golden Age Senior Center in Ontario, California, who is smitten with her at first sight. Both are easily drawn to each other physically, but once they discover they are both widowers their connection grows stronger. However, Savannah isn’t sure if she should allow herself to have feelings for Antonia, since she is still in love with Geoffrey.

Just as Savannah begins to feel comfortable about pursing a relationship with Antonio, another tragedy threatens to still her joy. Will Savannah and Antonia have a second chance at love?

As their relationships develop, Joshua discovers that Rain has perched him on a pedestal so high he can’t help but fail her. Once he falls off, will she see him for the man he is or will her prejudice keep them apart? A Secret Singles Clubs for grown women that holds a list of available men and predators? Where do I sign up? The beautiful cover of this novel parallels with the sweet romance that develops between Savannah and Antonio.

Savannah’s grappling with her faith and future is realistic. Oftentimes faith falls out the window when tragedy strikes. Smith does a great job at dealing with mourning and longsuffering. However, like most Hudson-Smiths’ novels the dialogue is too preachy in spots and stilted in others. Like A SILVER SEASON (September 2006.) Hudson shows romantic scenes as flashbacks, written in a reverie. All in all this novel is a great read for older women and fans of Terry McMillan novels.
