SERIES ROMANCE |4| Lashonda Silver

REVIEW:  Callie Payne, a member of the Black-Seminoles tribe, has decided to become a scout for the US Calvary in order to get the land promised to each scout. The only problem is Callie must do so under the guise of a man. Lieutenant Lucien Delacroix has secrets of his own. The son of a wealthy white plantation owner and his black mistress, Lucien is passing himself. With his attraction for the young “scout” growing, Luc has more mounting problems as he questions his attract for the young male. They must hold onto their secrets and work together in what becomes a fight for their lives.

Full of historical elements in the treatment of the Indians and the need for people to pass to live a better life, this well written piece allows a glimpse into the hardship and reality of these people. The griping, seemingly taboo love story of Luc and Callie is well thought out and written. The story moves along at a pace that is easy to follow and stays true to the period from start to finish.

I recommend
AFTER THE LIES to historical romance lovers. The issues of race and class make this a novel that will resound in reader’s hearts well after the last word is read.
