REVIEW: He’s a FBI agent who thinks she’s a crook. Explain what’s
he doing falling in love with her. This is the entertaining story played
out in ALWAYS A CHANCE, a new novel by author Angela Winters.
Lily Wolfe has been on the run for years trying to outrun the shame
following her father’s indictment for questionable business practices.
When she learns of his failing health, Lily returns home to nurse him
back to health. However, on arrival she discovers her father might not
be as sick as she thought since it appears he’s still be up to his shady
dealings. In the middle of trying to decide if her father is crooked or
clean, Lily falls for her neighbor, sexy Garrick Pruitt, who happens to
be new in town. Lily has no clue Garrick a.k.a. Michael is working
undercover to take down her father. His weapon of choice -- her. It’s
quite interesting the way the story plays out.
It unfolds with layers and layers of exciting twists which will
completely engage readers. Neither the plot nor the pacing lags but
quickly progresses adding new and shocking details to the escalating
drama surrounding Lily and Garrick. The characters are richly developed
and painted in words that bring them off the pages of the novel and to
life. Garrick is a realistic character who aside from having an inner
and outer strength, also has a gentle side to him which is very
refreshing. Lily is just as feisty as she wants to be and is also a very
well developed and credible character. Most readers will dislike Brody
but that simply means a job well done for Ms. Winters. Ward, Lily’s
father, Sabrina, Lily’s so called friend and Carolyn, Garrick’s partner
are just a few more of the many characters who lend their hands in
making this a very entertaining novel.
The novel mainly unfolds in Georgia and Ms. Winters’ personal account of
this popular location gives the story its own unique authenticity. Lily
might embody the sweetness of a Georgia peach but don’t be fooled. If
you squeeze her, she’ll squeeze back. The dialogue throughout is very
engaging and quite rip-roaring when Lily and Garrick go at it. Lily not
only voices her displeasure, she is not above expressing herself
physically as well. Michael is a true gentleman, taking what he deserves
but is no lackey as he and Lily match wit.
Overall this is a very enjoyable story depicting a wonderful
contemporary romance. If readers want a novel to sink their teeth in and
that’s worth turning every page, ALWAYS A CHANCE is the one.
