AN EVERLASTING LOVE - Bette Ford Harper Torch March 2005
SYNOPSIS: From the sensational author of "Unforgettable" comes a searing tale of love, family, betrayal, and second chances. When a sexy NFL star reunites with his long-lost love, he finds a family he never knew existed. CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE: (4+) Sophie Chase REVIEW: Brynne Armstrong is a rape counselor with a devastating secret from her past. She is content with a simple life which includes her daughter, Shanna, and a few close friends. A star quarter back in the NFL, Devin Prescott is a man who has everything one could ever want in life, but the one thing he craves is a woman who truly loves him and not the fame and comfort associated with him. After a devastating break-up four years ago, the two are reunited at a party where it is evident that there is still a bond between them. Devin has no intention of trusting Brynne ever again, while Brynne must reveal a deep and traumatizing secret if she to win Devin’s love and trust again.
The only word that can be used to describe the pace of the story is perfect. Bette chooses just the right pace to allow the main characters to develop. The pace also sustains the reader’s interest as every relevant detail is revealed at the appropriate time.
Down to earth and genuine are the best qualities of all the characters. They reveal their true feelings without hesitation and are very loyal and caring to each other. In my opinion the characters are the best feature of this novel. Bette portrays them in a very distinct and realistic manner, thus endowing them with human like attributes.
Setting is another crucial aspect of An Everlasting Love. It provides the channel through which Brynne and Devin rekindle their lost love. For example, they spend a weekend at a luxurious resort where they rediscover the love they once shared. However, dialogue plays the most important role. The conversations between the characters display exactly what they are thinking and is the main medium used to develop the story.
It was a truly a pleasure to read and to review this book. Bette Ford presents us with a masterpiece which deals with an issue that is pertinent to the well being of all women. This book is recommended for all contemporary romance fans who enjoy a deep and soul searching story. I eagerly anticipate Bette’s next novel. Three cheers for Bette Ford, as she continues to enthrall the minds and the hearts of all readers. sophie@romanceincolor.com (16th April 2005)
