REVIEW:
Author Rochelle Alers never
disappoints and BREAKAWAY
is another great installation to the Hideaway series. Emergency room doctor,
Celia ColeThomas is traumatized by the murder of her fiancé and her near fatal
shooting by a gangbanger. As the only one who can identify the shooter, Celia
will have to testify at his trial. Needing time to clear her head, Celia escapes
to her vacation home in North Carolina. Gavin Faulkner is an FBI agent working
undercover in the area. Their paths cross while rescuing a stray puppy. As they
grow closer Gavin soon realizes his case is tied to Celia’s attack. He devises
an unorthodox plan to keep Celia safe but will she want to stay by his side when
she learns he’s not the man he appears to be?
BREAKAWAY’s
opening scene will immediately capture your attention and keep you reading to
discover how it plays out. The story does not lag and each scene brings a new
revelation leading up to a climatic ending.
Gavin Faulkner is a burnt out FBI agent ready to hang up his undercover days for
a more domesticated life. He loves his career but he knows it time to get out of
the line of fire. Celia ColeThomas’ dream has always been to help the less
fortunate despite being born into fortune and privilege. Her brothers, Diego and
Nick also appear in
BREAKAWAY
and add to the authenticity of the family. Diego found his love match in
SECRET AGENDA and judging
from developments in BREAKAWAY,
it is only a matter of time before youngest brother, Nick has a story of his
own.
The rustic beauty of the North Carolina Mountains is a perfect backdrop for the
story and the isolation of the area goes toward the development of the plot.
Dialogue takes on an easy flow between Gavin and Celia and reflects their
instant connection. The energy is noticeable in their verbal and non-verbal
exchanges.
I enjoyed BREAKAWAY
because aside from being a romance, the element of suspense adds another
dimension and breaks the plot into interesting pieces that come together to form
a really great story. I found the book an enjoyable read with friendly and easy
to follow language. The characters are richly drawn and vibrantly brought to
life allowing the reader to really connect with them. I definitely recommend
BREAKAWAY
and look forward to more stories from the Cole Thomas clan. I can’t wait to read
Nick’s story.
