MAINSTREAM FICTION |4++| Patricia Sykes-Brown

REVIEW:  What do you do when you catch your handsome and prosperous husband of 30 years in a compromising situation with his secretary? You take your share of the millions accumulated during the marriage, join the Bottom Women Society, and enjoy all that life has to offer you in high style. When you diligently ask, pray, and seek your purpose, your answer comes in many wonderfully diverse ways so you can BRING ON THE BLESSINGS in the lives of others.

Bernadine Edwards Brown is a statuesque, talented, caring, loving, mature woman with a selfless persona and a shrewd mind for business with worldwide influence and megabucks to back her up as she pursues her dreams. With a background in social work and a keen insight, Bernadine’s purpose is to create an intergenerational community for senior citizens, hard to place foster children, and potential foster parents. Bernadine is the answer to many prayers and experiences love in many forms, with many astonishing rewards.

Mayor Trenton July is a fine, muscular, hunk of dark chocolate who is trying to save his town of Henry Adams, Kansas. When he advertises his town on eBay, he has negotiated the deal of a lifetime. The benefits are bottomless as his dreams are fulfilled and his lonely days and nights are over. Trent might have bitten off more than he can handle with his adopted son and convicted car thief Amari “Flash” Steele and the love of his life Lily Fontaine.

Your emotions will range dramatically, with the antics of the five adopted kids, wise senior citizens, sexy men, crooks, and a hog. You will definitely cry at the sadness of some of the situations, while the next page will have you laughing out loud. The sex doesn’t sizzle as much as it has in many of Ms. Jenkins’ previous romances, but the sweetness of the budding romances, the book’s timeliness and relevance to societal issues will more than make up for it. The characters are rich and multidimensional. The story develops over a seemingly short period of time, with characters that leave you wanting to know more about them and follow their lives as they grow.

Beverly Jenkins has reintroduced her historical dusters, the legendary July descendants, and the Jeffersons. My love for historical romances was inflamed years ago when I first read Ms. Jenkins’ novels, which were rich with history and colorfully memorable characters. In this contemporary romance, her skillful use of colorful language to bring five generations into the 21st century is amazing.
BRING ON THE BLESSINGS is entertaining, informative, and captivating. It is a book that is not only a fast paced must read, but it is a treasure to be shared.
