REVIEW:
April Dutton goes to Las Vegas for a well needed
vacation; she comes back with a husband. Alexander MacMillan goes to the
city of lights to celebrate his friend’s upcoming nuptials, but after
spending time with April, he beats his friend to the altar! Now that the
smoke from this speedy courtship has cleared, Alexander thinks better of
his new found marriage and contacts his lawyer before April wakes up for
their first breakfast as man and wife. When he hits April with the news,
she high-tails it back home, leaving Alexander with not only his
relationship in limbo, but also his heart.
Alexander “Lex” MacMillan, a major corporate player, is all about
structure and expectations; mostly his family’s. The last thing they
expect from Lex is for him to marry someone he has known for less than a
week. It doesn’t matter that April is the first woman to make his heart
soar, He suspects his parents will question his ability to run the
family business. April never expected to fall for someone like Lex, but
she has no doubts that they belong together. But if he can’t see that,
April’s not about to force him. If Lex wants out of the marriage, April
is going out like the woman she is, a woman scorned.
This latest edition in Ms. Bryant’s well of stories is another winner.
The chemistry between April and Lex is palpable, making you root for
these two to find their way. The funny twist in the story is original
and April’s vulnerability comes through without making her look
desperate. Ms. Bryant is skilled at writing a well rounded heroine
capturing all aspects of being a woman. Lex’s character, although
supposedly settled in his ways, shows amazing passion and you can really
feel his conflict.
Ms. Bryant stories are always delightful with great dialogue and a good
dose of comedy to keep you laughing. Lex and April are likeable and the
supporting characters really thicken the storyline. The dialogue and
subplots are realistic and move the story along at a great pace.
Typical of Miss Bryant’s work, COUNT ON THIS is a funny enjoyable tale.
I always enjoy Ms. Bryant’s writing and COUNT ON THIS does not
disappoint.
