SYNOPSIS:  After witnessing a triple homicide, an African-American woman is pursued by a killer and finds herself falling in love with the white detective who has been assigned to protect her, in this emotionally charged romance.

ROMANTIC SUSPENSE |4| Marguerite Lemons

REVIEW:  Raina Wade is sitting in her favorite restaurant, still reeling from the fact that her “boyfriend” dumped her, wondering what else could possibly go wrong with her evening. She has to think quickly after witnessing a cold-blooded murderer in action as she is leaving the ladies room. Realizing that the killer is now after her, she uses her wits and intellect to stay alive. Detective Nick Laparelli of the Philadelphia Police Department, has just made a fatal mistake during a stake-out which could end up costing him his job. He’s wondering what else could possibly go wrong while writing his report, when he notices a “kick-ass” pair of shoes standing next to his desk. Unfortunately, his foul mood, his smart mouth and a wrong conclusion not only earn him a loud and embarrassing slap in the middle of the squad-room, but a baby-sitting job that he will never forget.

CROSSING THE LINE is an interracial romantic suspense set in the Philadelphia and Seattle areas, with stops in Chicago and Las Vegas. The plot, along with the main characters and supporting cast, keeps you turning the pages to see what will happen next. Raina is a smart, hard-working, independent and supremely stubborn woman who is not used to relying on a man to take care of her. Nick is a good detective who happens to be having a slow melt-down after the death of his partner at the hands of a hit-man. Both characters are loners and don’t like having their lives dictated to them by others. They try hard to ignore their attraction to each other, while attempting to get to know each other, get along and stay alive.

Ms. Layton has done a wonderful job telling this story, and I would recommend it for anyone who loves a little intrigue with their romance.
