PLOT SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

Niqui Stanhope has succeeded in doing something that few others have done—she scared me! DISTANT MEMORIES, as well as being a sweet romance, should go down as having the scariest prologue in the history of the genre!

Raquel Ward is vivacious, lovely and excited about her new career as an actress.  She is about to move to California to start her new life when she is threatened by her ex-husband. She makes it to California but is plagued by a series of odd incidents that are surely more than coincidence.  Tragically, she is involved in an accident which destroys her face and will surely destroy her fledgling career.  But Raquel has a savior in Sean KirPatrick, a handsome, enigmatic plastic surgeon.

Sean is a gentle and complicated man with a past of his own.  He is drawn to Raquel in a way that he cannot explain.  Sean is the one who protects her from her ex-husband, who makes it to her bedside in the hospital; and Sean is the only one who can restore her beauty.

The chemistry between Sean and Raquel is explosive and unmistakable.  This is a couple that you will really root for because of the sweetness and passion that Ms. Stanhope gives their relationship.  And you will all but hiss and boo that scoundrel of an ex-husband—Wayne, I’m putting in my vote now for Villain of the Year!  This is one of the reasons that the book works so well—you genuinely believe that Raquel is in jeopardy.  I read this book as fast as possible because the suspense was killing me and I had to know what was going to happen next!

I will own up to being the kind of person who pooh-poohs monster movies; in order for someone to scare me, it has to be grounded in reality.  If I think it can really happen, you’ve got me!  Ms. Stanhope made me believe in the power of an evil man.  I am getting goose-bumpy writing this because it was so powerful.  And I never forgot that I was reading a romance because she made me feel the love between Sean and Raquel.

Don’t believe me?  Pick up a copy and leave the lights on…DISTANT MEMORIES may keep you awake!
