Ms. LeBeau’s latest release
is a story of the haves and have-nots and the former thinking they’re better
than their counterparts. It’s
also a story of revenge and how acting on that deed can be unpredictable and may
not go as planned.
Amber Morgan is one of the
upper middle class blacks that attended Hilton High School.
She was voted homecoming queen and adored by her peers, but Jordan
Burrell loved her. He was her
silent admirer, following and watching her from a distance.
Being a resident of the Eden Hills Projects, Jordan knew he could never
be apart of her inner circle.
Then one day a gang of
jealous girls from Eden Hills confronted Amber.
Jordan came to her rescue becoming a hero in her eyes.
She was indebted to him; however, when he asked her out on a date she
laughed thinking he was joking, and then offered him money as payment instead.
His pride bruised and his ego crushed, Jordan walked away never to
worship her again. He silently
promised vengeance one day against Amber and the good people of Cunningham, who
had treated them like second-class citizens.
Now 12 years later, Amber is
a pediatrician and Jordan is a multi-millionaire rap artist turned actor.
He is invited to participate in the Cunningham College Scholarship
fundraiser, as the celebrity guess. Upon
seeing Amber again, he decides to make her pay for the way she mistreated him in
high school. He conspires to win
her trust, seduce her then dump her. (Oh the games that people).
When I read the synopsis of
this story and found that it was a tale of love and revenge, I couldn’t wait
to read it. I just love a good
romance with lots of drama and Ms. LeBeau delivered.
Revenge can be a capricious
entity. You set out to get even
with someone only to find yourself the willing victim of your own scheme. Jordan learns this the hard way in EVERYTHING AND MORE.
He started out as such a
sweetheart, but planning his revenge against Amber turned him into the hero you
love to hate. He was arrogant,
cocky and hateful. I liked this
character, even though he grated on my last nerve, because you knew it was just
an act.
I was stunned with a
revelation that came from out of nowhere. Now
that’s what I call a “zinger”. On
the other hand, the time frame of related scenes didn’t coincide which caused
this reviewer to doubt their practicality.
This is one of those books
that you can’t put down. It was a
very engaging story. Genesis has chosen
a fine book to kick off their New Year with.
Pickup Ms. LeBeau’s EVERYTHING AND MORE, you won’t be
disappointed.
