PLOT SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

It’s just March and Genesis is batting 1000 already.  Forget the regular season, I want to stay in Spring Training.  With EVE’S PRESCRIPTION, Genesis is now 3 for 3 on my scorecard.  I don’t know who they’ve got scouting for new talent, but here’s a word of advice Genesis, “It’s BONUS time”.

In EVE’S PRESCRIPTION we find widow, mother and prosecutor Eve Garrett still dealing with the death of her husband 4 years ago.  She has herself in her job and her son and is still wearing her wedding ring.  Her only social activity is a weekly Domino game at her best friend’s home.  Eve has never been interested in another man until she meets her new Domino partner.  She is astonished by her reaction to him when they first met.

Noah Russell is 6’2” and handsome with a beautiful smile.  His attraction to Eve is immediate and he doesn’t waste any time turning on the charm.  Eve is put off by this Casanova, because she has heard about his playboy reputation.  “He was rumored to be the red-hot stud of the fire department, the lover of the century, better than Aretha Franklin’s Dr. Feelgood, a fireman with quite a hose”.  There is another side to Noah that his reputable doesn’t declare.  He loves his family, gives back to the community and wants what his parents had, a long loving relationship.

You learn to hate Eve early on in EVE’S PRESCRIPTION, because let’s face it, here’s this handsome, fine brother and a fireman to boot, willing to love Eve like she’s never been loved before.  But Noooo!  She’s too hung up on his reputation and the difference in their ages.  So she seduces him and like R. Kelly, she wants him to keep it on the Down Low, wanting him only as her “secret lover”.

I was turned off by Noah’s “all the women want me” persona, but beneath that façade was a man searching for love and wanting to be loved.  His reputation scares Eve, but what’s a brotha supposed to do when women are throwing themselves at him left and right?  After his repeated attempts at pursuing her, I was yelling at Noah to write her off.

This is Ms. Martin-Arnold’s first romance novel and she has given us an exciting twist on the May-December romance.  Her transformation of Noah from a “playa” to a mature, compassionate companion has me giving younger men a second look.  But wait a second; “I’m married!”

At times, the structure of the paragraphs was confusing when one voice immediately followed the other with no break in pattern, but EVE’S PRESCRIPTION is a definite must read.

These greenhorns are giving the seasoned veterans a run for their money as well as a shot at their starting positions.  I say "good hands" to the up and coming rookies and high fives to the talent scouts over at Genesis.  Your RBIs are steadily rising.
