PLOT SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

Mallory Heart is a beautiful, spoiled young woman from the right side of the tracks. Rich and politically well-connected, she’s sick and tired of  not getting a key position in her family’s chain of department stores, so she breaks out on her own to open an upscale shop. She has a carefully-planned itinerary of how and when her shop should open, but Murphy’s Law prevails and everything goes wrong. She refuses to accept the many changes that prevents her shop from opening and she alienates everyone who comes into contact with her. When Mallory Heart sets her mind on something, nothing or no one can change it. However, one brave person stands up to her and tries to get her to relent.

Ellis Carson is the person who tries but fails to change Mallory’s mind about her raising so much cain when his construction company doesn’t finish their work on her shop as quickly as she likes. Ellis is the direct opposite of Mallory--a low-maintenance gentleman--who enjoys running his self-made construction company. They butt heads at every turn about every conceivable subject, but the chemistry between them is undeniable to everyone around them. For some reason, they are the last to know that they’re a perfect love match. The only thing standing in their way is Mallory’s intense stubbornness and her having to be right about whatever they’re discussing or debating.

Mallory does everything she can not to let the lowly entrepreneur steal her heart. She doesn’t want to admit how she really feels about Ellis because to do so means that she would have to change her high-minded values and conform to Ellis’ down-to-earth views. However, Mallory can’t help herself and her heart overrules her head. Despite all of the gyrations she goes through to keep from falling in love with Ellis, she realizes that he is the man for her and she’s a goner after that.

FORBIDDEN HEART is a well-crafted book. The character-driven story unfolds perfectly and nothing happens before its time. Every plot twist and sub-plot is plausible and has a place in the story. The author didn’t put them in as a mere plot device. Every word and scene  moves the story forward and helps to bring it to an exciting, explosive climax.

FORBIDDEN HEART is the answer to Mason’s many fans wanting to read Mallory’s story. She first appeared in the book, FOOLISH HEART, as the evil woman who tried to sabotage her cousin’s job at their family’s business. Mallory stood out as a strong character even then and her story begged to be told--now, it is!

Ms. Mason's latest is an excellent and very entertaining novel that deserves to be read.  It’s an upbeat and light-hearted book that is perfect for vacation or beach reading. Author Felicia Mason is known for her exceptional writing skills and this book doesn’t disappoint. It is perhaps her best work to date. This reviewer’s recommendation is to buy yourself a copy, choose a quiet spot and get to reading. You’ll be so glad you did!
