PLOT SYNOPSIS:

Interior designer Christine Davenport, still grieving her mother's death, finds solace--and surprising attraction--in the embrace of a stranger. Recovering himself from a broken engagement, Damian is captivated by Christine, and finds himself caught up in a passionate love affair--one that puts his mistrust in relationships to the test.

REVIEW:

FOUNDATION FOR LOVE is a very entertaining first offering by Doreen Rainey. I have been disappointed recently by some of the recent debuts, but new authors like Ms. Rainey help me keep the faith that the cream does rise to the top.  I must say thank you.

This story begins with the chance meeting between Damian Ware and Christine Davenport. Damian sees a woman crying while sitting on park bench after leaving the hospital. She does not move despite the fact that it begins to rain. The sight touches a part of Damian that he thought was closed off forever. He comforts her. Christine abruptly leaves without a thank you or exchanging names. For three months, each has fantasies about the other. They are brought back together at a reception hosted by Christine for her new interior design firm. Damian is in need of her services for his new set of offices for his construction firm.

In FOUNDATION FOR LOVE, Ms. Rainey takes a look at the lingering affects of physical and verbal abuse that Christine suffered at the hands of her father as a child. If that is not enough, she has to deal with her father’s infidelity. As her father’s mistress and her half sister try to stake a claim on an inheritance left by Christine’s mother. There are lessons of forgiveness and stepping out on faith. These lessons are being learned by all the characters on some level. Each set of circumstances adds depth to the overall story.

Ms. Rainey carefully reveals the layers that make up her main characters. You are drawn in wondering if Christine’s pain is too great to overcome. You root for Damian that he doesn’t give up. His ex-fiancée, Danielle, makes you want to drop kick her across the room. Ms. Rainey gives a wonderful group of friends and family. They provide humor, advice and unwavering support for Damian and Christine.

Bravo, Doreen Rainey, FOUNDATION FOR LOVE is a brilliant first offering. I am definitely looking forward to the next novel. Your hints about Tanya and Brandon leave me with great expectations.
