GUILTY PLEASURES - Donna Hill

St. Martin's Press

0-31235-421-5

October 2006

SYNOPSIS: Jake and Eva Kelly are masters of cons and deceptions. From the cons of vulnerable, unsuspecting marks to the deception of living a legit, normal married middle class life to the outside world. From the foreplay of the con to the reality of life, Jake and Eva find themselves caught up in the turmoil of their own addiction and deceit that could cost them everything---including each other.

MAINSTREAM FICTION  |4| Tina Wise

REVIEW:  Beautiful, intelligent Eva Kelly is growing tired of the fast life. She desires to settle down and have a normal life. On the other hand, her handsome husband Jake enjoys the thrill of the con and is haunted by past ghosts and fears that may destroy their future together. The love and passion that these two characters have for one another is a thrill of its own. The collaboration of the Jake, Eva, Jinx (Jake’s younger brother) and Rita (Eva’s look a like cousin) and what they all bring to the table to pull off the almost perfect con is very unique and believable. I was also intrigue with the character Xavier Suarez’s bad boy yet passionate image. The hot and steamy chemistry between him and Rita has you wondering if Rita is really cut out to pull off this scam. I question the character of Traci. I did not feel that her character had a place in the story line.

The description of the cruise had me feeling like I was watching a movie. The way the author described in detail every aspect of the ships layout, it was not difficult to image being at sea; however I was somewhat disappointed because the author failed to provide an adequate description of the beauty and splendor of Brazil. That particular description of the scenery did not work for me. I also desire to know the outcome of Stan and Lenora Ingram’s punishment and how Lenora felt about Stan’s sudden development of courage.

Once again Donna Hill has taken me away from my reality and introduced me to the world of Jake and Eva. I could not put this book down and I was very eager to see what the outcome was going to be. The mystery and seduction of this book truly helps the reader to appreciate the talent and creativity of Donna Hill. If there is not one planned, I hope Ms. Hill considers doing a sequel to GUILTY PLEASURES focusing on the twisted love triangle of Rita, Xavier and Jinx. I highly recommend GUILTY PLEASURES as a must read.
