CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE: (4+) Sophia Chase
REVIEW: David Blackshear has achieved an incredible feat. He has won a whopping sum of money. Despite all his fame and riches David
discovers that he is actually a very lonely person and thus sets on a mission to find the one true person who will fill the void in his life.
Margo Sterling is an advertising guru who has been fired because of the deception and betrayal of a fellow coworker. Like David, Margo is
desperately seeking that one special person to fill the lonely gap in her life. After a coincidental meeting in a train station where Margo
rejects David, the two meet again and form a warm and caring relationship which is threatened by the vengeance of a character from Margo’s
past.
Like a well timed piece from a symphony, Doris Johnson uses the ideal pace for this enchanting story. The relationships between all the
characters are aptly developed and the reader can sense the strong ties which bind them together. Their dialogues are very realistic and
convey exactly what they think and fee, For example, David’s family and friends immediately accept Margo and they live like one big happy
family, they compliment and constructively criticize each other.
The characters are very real and authentic. They are easy to identify with and are not afraid to display their inner feelings. Indeed, the
characters create the story and are the ones who structure the storyline. I was very impressed with the characters in this novel and they are
in my opinion the best aspect of the story as they captivated my attention from beginning to end.
Setting was also of vital importance. It added to the suspense element of the story and in fact was used to show the strong bond which formed
between the two protagonists. For example, when Margo encounters problems while cycling, David’s love is manifested when he rescues her
despite her location.
I wish to compliment Doris Johnson on a job well done. HELLO AGAIN enthralled me from start to finish. I even found myself becoming involved
in it and actually voicing my own opinions at times. I also think that her choice of title was excellent as it was relevant to the story. I
would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a solid contemporary romance. Congrats and keep up the good work Doris.
