HIS HOLIDAY BRIDE - Elaine Overton

Harlequin Kimani/Romance

0-37386-036-6

October 2007

SYNOPSIS: Fleeing from a dangerous pursuer, Amber Lockhart takes refuge in the home and arms of Paul Guitierrez. But the threat posed by the man who's after her doesn't compare with the peril to Ambers heart from her sexy Latin protector.

SERIES ROMANCE |4| Keren Childers

REVIEW:  Amber Lockhart is the “wild child” of the Lockhart sisters. Part-time student and full-time groupie, Amber is fancy free, loves partying and doing what she wants to do. Her sisters are constantly bailing her out of trouble. However, when her partying turns into chaos, a family friend calls on Paul Gutierrez. Paul is the owner of a security company to steps in to save her from a celebrity who is definitely bad news.

Ms. Overton introduces two totally dissimilar characters that are a rollercoaster ride. Amber hasn’t learned that everything is not about her; she’ll get mad and run away in a minute. Paul is hot-headed and controlling at times, but loveable too. I enjoyed the rouse between them. Amber really has talent, she just needs someone to point it out to her, and Paul does that. Once that is established, she seems to grow up a little. Paul falls hard and fast but he needs to realize that becoming too clingy at the beginning of a relationship can make someone run for the border. He has made up in his mind that the next woman he gets with will be the mother to his son. So I can understand that. In short, he wants a wife. I wanted their relationship to work, because they feed off each other.

The pacing of HIS HOLIDAY BRIDE is steady. This story takes place primarily in Detroit and Los Angeles. Both settings are romantic. First, the severe cold weather in Detroit cozying up by the fireplace and then in the warm climate walking on the beach and having barbecues and picnics. This sense of place helps to made the story captivating. The secondary characters are very influential in the story. The sisters are involved a lot, but their family friend, Luther Biggens an ex-navy seal, gives the storyline a good twist. He’s like the brother they never had and he’s there for all of them. Amber did get on my nerves a little toward the end, but overall, I did enjoy the story and would recommend reading it.
