REVIEW:

I cannot, in a few words, tell you what a thrill it is to be reviewing INCOGNITO by Francis Ray.  It is, as everyone should be aware, the very first of the BET produced Movies for Television based on Arabesque novels.  Even if it weren’t an exceptional read, it would be worth noting for that fact.  However, this book is g-o-o-o-o-d!!  This is one of the books that made me want to start writing romances, to be honest.  It is exciting, well written, carefully structured and exquisitely sensual.  This is Ms Ray at her finest.

Erin Cortland is a tough cookie, but even she is finding it hard to cope with the elements around her. She is trying desperately to cope with the aftermath of being the key witness in a felony—her life have been turned upside down because of it.  Erin cannot allow what has taken place to control her; she is far too independent and strong for that.  Yet, when the murderer escapes, she finds herself in jeopardy once again.

Jake Hunter is a security expert who specializes in guarding valuables.  Erin’s father hires him to be her bodyguard, a position Jake does not want because of a tragedy in his past.  He is doubly sure that he doesn’t want to guard Erin because she is the most magnetically beautiful woman he has ever seen.   Everything about her is wrong for Jake—she is too rich, too smart, and too gorgeous for him—but when they are together every wrong becomes a right.

As the days and nights pass, Jake and Erin find out that they can heal each other and that when passion calls, it must be answered.  But is this assignment doomed to end in tragedy like the one so long ago?  Or will they find a way to fuel their desire into a lasting flame of love?  You will have the answer on September 17th when you tune in to see INCOGNITO on BET.  Or you could hurry to the bookstore now and get a copy of the re-released INCOGNITO. Think of it as a study guide!

With Ms Ray the reader always understands the character’s motivation. You are given an opportunity to get to know the inner essence of a character, which endears them to the reader even more.  INCOGNITO is no exception; you will come to know Jake and Erin very well indeed as the story progresses.  The basic plotting of the book allows that as it places them in a situation where they are forced to interact virtually 24-7.

This was, in fact, one of the book’s highlights for me.  So often in the suspense-based romance the plot becomes the character with an emphasis on chicanery rather than chemistry.  INCOGNITO covers both aspects handily, with a suspenseful denouement and highly satisfactory love scenes.  Umm-hmmm!

This book definitely rates 5 stars for its well thought out plot, its pacing, its characters and the thrill of it all.  I can’t wait for the movie—I’ll be glued to my screen on September 17th at 11pm.  See you at the movies!
