REVIEW:  Barbara Turner arrived in Paradise Island on a mission. She has had a successful career on Wall Street as an investor and she owes her success to the love and support she received from her grandmother, Dorsey McNair. Now she is on the trail of the scam artists who swindled and killed her beloved grandmother. She knows of others that these people have swindled out of their life savings and plans to not only get their money back but to bring those to justice in the process. Barbara has attracted the town’s most eligible bachelor, Sheriff Harper Porterfield and is second guessing herself. Being a fuller sized woman, even though beautiful and successful she doesn’t want to start something that has to be shrouded in secrecy. Barbara feels that she cannot trust Sheriff Porterfield to assist her in bringing down the scam artists because she received no assistance from the authorities in Philadelphia. Barbara doesn’t realize that she isn’t the only person looking for redemption for someone they loved. Not only does Barbara find extended family in Paradise, she finds a few killers in the process.

Harper Porterfield has finally found a woman he not only is attracted to but who appreciates him. He wants to start a relationship with her and he does after she has to put her current male friend in his place after he tries to rob her. Harper knows that Barbara is holding back something but he tries to be patient and allow her to come to him. He has his hands full with the increased break-in’s and dead bodies that keep turning up in his small community. When Barbara’s life is endangered, Harper has every intention of protecting the woman with whom he has fallen in love. He soon learns that Barbara is one of the pieces to a big puzzle in Paradise Island.

Candice Poarch has done justice to “Island of Deceit” and if you are following the “Quest for the Golden Bowl” series, you will not be disappointed. The east coast is the setting and our heroine is one of us, full-figured, intelligent, independent and sexy. The story line is so real and could be pulled from any national press around the world. Older people swindled out of their live savings and the effect it has on them.

Excellent story, great characters, can’t wait for the next installment……
