REVIEW:
Garrett Martindale is a famous R & B singer who is getting
a little tired of all the glitz and glamour, so he returns to his hometown,
Columbia Maryland, in order to clear his head and recharge his “batteries”.
Trinity Blake and Garrett grew up together in his father’s church, singing in
the church choir. Trinity quit the choir shortly after Garrett left to pursue
his singing career, she’d found her calling as a school teacher. Garrett has
become a success all over the world, but he’s missing the love of the one woman
he really wants. Trinity loves Garrett, but she has seen the pictures of him and
his supermodel girlfriend, Imani, and feels that there is no way she can
compete. Garrett and Trinity realize that their love is still strong, but will
they be able to hold it together when Imani claims to be with child, and
Trinity’s ex-boyfriend, Darius, returns professing his love and proposing
marriage?
Garrett is loved and respected all over the world but there are two things he
really wants, and that’s his father’s approval and Trinity’s love. Trinity wants
nothing more than to marry the love of her life and have a family of her own,
but after being hurt by her previous boyfriend, she doesn’t know who to trust.
Both characters are strong and family-oriented, but their family members have to
learn their limits. Garrett’s father has to learn that he cannot control every
aspect of his children’s lives. While Trinity has to learn that she doesn’t have
to settle for second best, and that she needs to have more faith in herself and
her abilities. Imani has to learn that she can’t have everything she wants,
regardless of her looks and her status in the industry, and she and Darius learn
that you can’t force someone to love you.
IT’S IN THE RHYTHM is a moderately paced
novel, set in Columbia Maryland, Los Angeles and Atlanta. It travels through the
lives of characters that are used to living up to the expectations of others,
instead of living their lives to suit themselves. Ms. Ward also deals with
infidelity in the form of the wife cheating with another woman, and the fall-out
from that situation. She also touches on the problems, as well as, the danger,
this situation can pose when everyone gets caught up in the emotion.
This is an entertaining and enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it.
