PLOT SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

On the night her guardian, Charles Lypton-Graves, dies, Erica St. James finds out that the old man has a grandson--a grandson she's never heard about, but one who is to be an equal partner in the company she has run for the past few years. That is, as long as they both fulfill the conditions of the unusual will. Erika goes in search of Michael Lawrence and finds him in the living in the mountains, withdrawn from the society that he feels has let him down. The demons from his past still haunt him.

When Michael realizes that his grandfather's inheritance will go to Frank Mason, the murderer he defended, he know he has to return to the city and fulfill the terms of the will--for 12 months he has to live in the same house with Erika, as well as help run the company.

The attraction between the two is immediate, but they fight their feelings, both unable to trust. Eventually they give in to the raging passion and become lovers.

In the midst of all this, Frank escapes from the mental facility where he has been imprisoned, and sets out to seek revenge on those who had wronged him, leaving a trail of death, his ultimate goal to kill Michael. Frank's characterization is brilliant. His sick diabolical brain is a clear indication of Ms. Hailstock's ability to create vivid realistic characters.

LEGACY is a terse novel that skillfully combines element of romance with thrilling suspense. Ms. Hailstock continues to assert her place as one of the best of the African-American romance writer.
