REVIEW:  Candice Poarch has another hit on her hands with LOVING SPOONFUL. Kim and Jack Canter met and fell in love in college.  After Kim becomes pregnant, she and Jack marry.  Now, seventeen years later, they find that they are beginning to grow apart and neither is willing to compromise on some key issues.  Will Jack and Kim work on the communication in their marriage for themselves and their children’s sake or are they willing to live separate lives?  Candice Poarch explores the lives of Kim and Jack and whether young love and marriage can truly stand the test of time.

Kim is a meteorologist for a local news station who loves what she does.  She also enjoys being a mother and is totally involved in the many activities that her 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter are in.  There is only one thing wrong in Kim’s life, her marriage.  Jack is a workaholic husband who can’t seem to stop himself.  As a result of a life altering childhood experience, Jack can’t enjoy his success in the business world for always wanting to conquer more.  Consequently his marriage is beginning to fall apart and unless he faces his issues he is going to lose the one thing that means the most to him, his family.  For years Jack and Kim have tried for another child but they have accepted the fact that it just wasn’t meant to be.  Now that a miracle has happened, can Jack and Kim workout their issues for their children or will they begin this new chapter in their lives separately?

The supporting characters are well rounded.  They play significant roles in the plot of the story and help shape the main characters.

The main setting of the LOVING SPOONFUL is mostly in Washington, D.C..  The story’s other setting is Canter Island.  This location is essential to the plot of the story.  The dialogue is very good.  The story line moves smoothly and the interaction amongst the characters keeps the reader wanting more.

I would recommend this novel.  It allows you to see that despite how well tuned you are to someone when you first meet them, life happens.  Marriage is hard work and unless both parties take an active role in keeping it together, things will fall apart.  The biggest lesson in this story is that communication is essential to relationships.
