REVIEW:
Jessa was the best girlfriend
Aria, Jaime, and Renee could ever ask for and she stuck close enough to win
their trust and learn all of their deep secrets. Ruthless in the pursuit of what
she wanted, she made herself available, attractive, and desirable enough to
seduce her friend’s husband without a bit of guilt or remorse. The text message
she sent to each woman caused endless moments of misery and soul searching,
while wreaking havoc in every household. Who can you believe or trust when the
people who are closest to you are the ones who can cause the most hurt and pain?
Aria and Kingston Livewell seem to have the perfect marriage—passion, stability,
wealth, and beauty. As a successful doctor, Kingston has been able to provide
Aria, a former stripper and prostitute, with status and affluence. Aria’s rise
from the ghetto is a rag to riches fairy tale full of dishonesty that could blow
up any minute.
Jaime Hall hides behind a mask that to outside appearances shows the perfect
daughter and model housewife. She married Eric without testing their
compatibility, and is now existing in a living hell caused by her infidelity
with Pleasure. Eric’s latent masochism is brought out when he discovers her
sexcapade. Reading about the abusive relationship is torturous as you push for
Jaime to stand up for herself.
Renee Clinton has performed her wifely duties with much aplomb for years. At age
43 the empty nest syndrome prompts her to change her appearance and pursue a
career. The acclaim and rewards of success exceeds her expectations, but the
demands threaten the loving home Renee and Jackson once treasured. The issue of
lack of balance, or making her husband and family a priority is relative.
Message From a Mistress is a riveting “who done it” mystery that
leaves you examining themes of love, security, trust, honesty, security, sexual
addiction, and punishment. The characters are complex and multidimensional with
such diverse personalities and secrets. The setting is suburbia USA, Richmond,
where the couples live in mini-mansions with all the outward signs of success
and loving relationships.
Nobia Bryant has exhibited great artistry in development of the plot and
characters. Message From a Mistress was thought provoking and kept
this reviewer on an emotional roller coaster. I recommend this easy reading,
mysteriously erotic memoir, as I anticipate the sequel where I imagine Jessa
getting her just deserts.
