REVIEW:  Candace Carter and Adam Jackson meet at his friend, Yvonne’s, house-warming party. They are thrust together when Yvonne’s husband, Calvin, volunteer’s Adam’s help to repair Candace’s kitchen when the contractor disappeared and left it in disarray. Adam arrives while Candace is working and misinterprets her relationship with the male model, but his overall distrust of women causes him to think ill of her. However, their attraction to each other is undeniable. Neither of them realizes that their budding relationship may be putting Candace’s life in danger, and when she is kidnapped, Adam vows to do whatever it takes to get her back.

Ms. Shaw creates two interesting main characters. Candace, a free-spirited and talented artist, doesn’t believe in happily ever after; especially since most of the men she has encountered have been turned off by her independence. She moves to Orlando, Florida when she decides to paint full time. Adam is the owner of a construction company who has buried himself in his work to keep from dealing with the void in his life that existed during his marriage and after the divorce.

MOMENT OF TRUTH offers some insight into the damage done to a relationship when someone is not completely honest about themselves, or details of incidents from their past. It also emphasizes taking responsibility for one’s actions, while showing how unfair it is to make assumptions about someone’s life and denying them the opportunity to explain the situation. Marguerite needs to say something about Candace and Adam which connect them to this statement.

Calvin and Yvonne are there to offer emotional support when needed, but Monique, Candace’s sister, is littler more than filler to tie up the loose ends. The story is set in and around Orlando and Ms. Shaw does a great job of painting a picture of their surroundings with words.

Even though MOMENT OF TRUTH drags a bit towards the end, it is a quick read that I totally enjoyed.
