REVIEW: Like the true veteran of great romance writing that she
is, Donna Hill has penned a captivating read in MOMENTS LIKE THIS. The
novel celebrates love in its rawest essence when two people cannot
explain why they love -- they just do. And, with all the baggage and
drama surrounding their coming together, that love lives and lasts,
beginning with just one moment in time.
Noted Hollywood actress, Dominique Laws is guilty of being gullible by
leaving all their finances in the hands of her husband slash manager.
When she discovers him sleeping with their maid, he runs off with all
the proceeds of her labor. Dominique is forced to start over with no
man, no money and her credibility as a bankable actress in shreds. Her
situation seems dire yet she’s not the only one with marital problems.
Alan Conners has big dreams of making it as a Hollywood producer and he
has had some measure of success but pinnacle success will only come when
he achieves the autonomy to bank role his own projects. His dream is
about to become a reality, with the help of his business partner and
brother-in-law but will his desire to leave his troubled personal
relationship with his wife, ruin his business one with her brother?
As fate would have it, Alan’s wife commits the unthinkable by taking her
life and Dominique reeling from her own personal loss, reaches out and
offers her friendship to Alan. Despite their recently unattached status,
they find themselves open to loving again although the paparazzi will no
doubt have a field day with their ill-timed relationship. Before
announcing their union to the world, Dominique works on damage control
with her career, while Alan works on mending fences with his brother-in
law. Losing everything has taught Dominique what is most important and
finding the kind of love he’s always wanted makes Alan realize his life
will never be the same without Dominique.
Defying family, fame and following their hearts, Dominique and Alan
forge a friendship and love that many dream of but seldom obtain.
MOMENTS LIKE THIS, is an eye-opening tale that many can relate to, even
as the story is encased in the Hollywood world of glamour and glitz.
This novel speaks to how important it is to break away from the norm and
follow what lies in our hearts.
At first I was appalled at Dominique and Alan taking up with each other
so soon after her break up and his deceased wife but Ms. Hill showed me
the error of my thoughts. There is no point in living in the past and
pining for what is no longer. It is far more rewarding to learn from the
past and move on. MOMENTS LIKE THIS, is a wonderfully well written novel
about taking chances but readers should hurry up and get this novel
because they don’t want to take the chance of missing out on what is
truly a must read for the Fall.
