SYNOPSIS:  In this funny, touching novel, a full-figured woman who has given up on romance finds unexpected love with someone shes only dreamed about--a New York Yankees superstar

CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE |4+| Marguerite Lemons

REVIEW:  Cathy Chambers is a single mom of twin boys, an author, managing partner of a literary agency in New York, and a die-hard Yankees fan with a secret crush on Marcus Fox, the team captain and short-stop. Marcus Fox is an eligible bachelor and superstar athlete, with a history of dating the entertainment industries top females. Cathy and Marcus meet at one of New York’s most famous eateries and Marcus attempts to get Cathy’s attention from across the room. She assumes he’s flirting with the models seated behind her, because men like him are not interested in full-figured women like her. Cathy is taken a-back when Marcus expresses an interest in her, but things really get out of hand when their relationship is exposed in the gossip columns.

In NOT HIS TYPE, the author deals with the entertainment industry, society’s issue with weight, and what is considered sexy. While this issue is played out in the media, Cathy has to come to grips with the return of the insecurities she has dealt with all of her life; as well as, trust issues from past relationships. Cathy has a lot of underlying familial issues, and I like the fact that Marcus is attentive and understanding.

The plot evolves around how family issues from our childhood can affect the way we handle relationships as adults. Cathy has struggled to rebuild her self-esteem from a failed marriage and a long-term relationship. But neither of which compares to the baggage she carries from her parent’s divorce and her disapproving mother. Marcus comes from a loving family whose parents are as much in love now as they were when he was growing up. Marcus is looking for someone to share the type of love his parents have with him, but first he has to rid himself, and Cathy, of a conniving ex-girlfriend.

NOT HIS TYPE is a well-written, face-paced novel, and at over four hundred pages it is still a quick, somewhat therapeutic and enjoyable read.
