ONE TRUE THING - Doreen Rainey BET/Arabesque (4) Tracey West
SYNOPSIS: When attorney Terrence McKinley agrees to take on a controversial case, it threatens to jeopardize his new romance with social worker Jasmine Larson. CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE: (4) Tracey West REVIEW: Social worker, Jasmine Larson doesn’t have her head in the clouds, especially when it comes to the real lives of those children hurt and abused in the world. Jasmine has always found great pride in her career, even when the system hasn’t always worked. She is tough, yet soft and sweet, will fight for what she believes in and one thing that she truly has faith and belief in, is love.
Enter attorney, Terrence McKinley, and the sparks flying between them at their first meeting can be felt, not only by them, but by the reader as well, in ONE TRUE THING. Their chemistry is strong, their convictions stronger and fate throws an obstacle in their path to love. Ms. Rainey takes the tragedies of the abused and the justice system, and teaches the characters, as well as the reader, that not all things are as open and shut as they might seem.
The author has provided deep, spiritual and profound characters in Jasmine and Terrence. The harder that it seems for them to stay together when being on opposite sides of a huge battle, the more the reader feels drawn to them. Their pain, their unwavering beliefs and the love these characters had, was for me, what made this story so wonderful and strong. The secondary characters of Jasmine and Terrence’s friends, married couple Eric and Dawn brought a lot of life and bonding to the story.
Ms. Rainey delivers a great story with ONE TRUE THING. It has all the elements that romance readers crave in their stories and stay with you long after the story is finished. reviewer@romanceincolor.com (3rd July 2004)
