PLOT SYNOPSIS:

Love is positively accident prone for Vivian St. James. From freak injuries to fainting spells, her dates always seem to need a doctor. But what Vivian needs is a husband. Whenever her paramours land in the ER, drop-dead gorgeous Dr. Zachary Warner is on duty--and their mutual attraction is unmistakable.

REVIEW:

Vivian St. James seems to have a curse.  Every man she dates end up in the emergency ward of the hospital, after some unusual mishap. Time after time, date after date, she finds herself at the hospital with them, facing the amusement of Dr. Zachary Warner who is always on duty when one of dates’ “accidents” happens.

Despite this situation, Zachary is attracted to the beautiful woman, and is more that pleased when he finds out that she lives in one of the apartments in a building he owns. So he sets out to seduce her, only to finds himself a victim of the “curse”.  Vivian, feeling responsible, offers to take care of him, an opportunity that Zach is more that pleased with, as he sets out to seduce his vulnerable nurse.

From the opening sequence in the restaurant, PRELUDE TO A KISS is pure delightful magic, and in my opinion the best book Ms. Griffin has written.  Ms. Griffin has a natural voice for romantic comedy and the almost perfect comic pacing of the story is evident of the comfort Ms, Griffith feels writing in this genre.

Vivian is indeed a special heroine, and one who is genuinely worried about her “jinx”.  Zach, with his ability to see the humor in Vivian’s plight, is the perfect hero and definitely the man to show Vivian that she is special.  It’s a joy to experience their courtship, and readers will applaud when Zach finally wins her heart.

With PRELUDE TO A KISS, Ms. Griffith leaps several feet forward and is poised to take her place among the best of the African-American romance authors. Along with the comic element, its unique plot and excellent characterization make PRELUDE TO A KISS a very special read.

PRELUDE TO A KISS has taken a well deserved spot on my keeper shelf!
