REVIEW: Author Altonya Washington introduces a storyline that brings both joy and tears to your eyes. Zakira is a woman that loves her husband eternally and will stand by him. Malik is a man that is stubborn and has too much pride, especially when he finds out that he has been diagnosed with a deadly disease. Both continue to hold the marriage together, but it is gradually slipping away.

PRIDE AND CONSEQUENCE is one rollercoaster ride. The characters were phenomenal at best. Malik and Zakira complement each other very well. The love scenes between the two were hot and steamy. However, I became angry, sad and teary eyed around the middle of the story. Zakira is a woman I admired for putting up with Malik’s selfish and uncaring ways. She loves her husband unconditionally, but baby when a woman is fed up and can’t take it anymore she can only do one thing and that’s walk away from the madness. Malik is a complicated man. Sure he loves his wife, but Malik should go back and read his vows where it says “in sickness and in health until death due us part. Maybe then he would realize that a marriage can hold steady through thick and thin. Malik became so angry that he didn’t care who he hurt in the process and this after awhile got on my nerves.

The plot was exhilarating, but kind of lost me toward the end. I felt the reason behind Malik’s secrets didn’t make much sense, especially when he felt he didn’t have to explain anything. The secondary characters were stimulating and actually helped carry the storyline. Edwina, Zakira’s stepsister, is feisty and doesn’t take a lot of mess from people. She’s very supportive when it comes to Zakira. Trekel, “Tree”, is Malik’s right-hand man and he sticks by him even when he knows Malik is wrong. Well when Edwina and Tree hook up together, talk about a steamy rollercoaster ride. They definitely could have had a story on their own.

PRIDE AND CONSEQUENCE is definitely a story worth reading. It’s full of passion and be warned it could possibly make you cry.
