REVIEW:  Sandra Kitt reintroduces us to a familiar character in PROMISES IN PARADISE. We first met Diane when she was a little girl in ADAM AND EVA. Know Diane is all grown up but still acting like a child. She hates Hale Cameron and its all stems from the little she knows about his less than humble beginnings. Not to mention the fact that her father took him under his wings and guided him with love and attention. Hale can’t seem to figure out why Diane hates him so and why he keeps setting himself up for rejection and condemnation from her. Will these two finally address their issues and find love in paradise?

Dr. Diane Maxwell hates Christmas seeing as two years ago her ex-husband walked out on her two days before Christmas. Now as the holiday season is upon her she realizes that a lot is missing in her life and maybe if she spends the season with her family she can start the healing process. As she joins her family on St. John Island, she comes face to face with the man from her past. Hale is surprised by the greeting he gets from Diane. Since she decides to be pleasant towards him, he returns the gesture and discovers that they really do enjoy each others company. As their relationship develops on a paradise island, reality comes crashing down as they prepare to return home and Diane once again jumps to conclusions without all of the facts. Diane and Hale have to face the fact that their lives are intertwined and there is an unmistakable attraction between the two of them. As they realize that life without each other is miserable, they both must grow up and be open and honest with each other about their feelings if they are ever going to build a life together.

The story takes place in D.C. and St. John. The time the couple spends together on St. John is the turning point of their relationship. The dialogue is interesting. The story is filled with Diane’s reflection of the past. The supporting characters are great support systems for the main characters growth and development throughout the story.

PROMISES IN PARADISE was a great novel. I would advise readers to read ADAM AND EVA first to get a better understanding of Diane’s background. Sandra Kitt did a fantastic job of allowing Hale and Diane to find true love the second time around.
