REVIEW: Sabryna Givens loves helping the youth as Assistant Director of the Middleton Youth Center. While intelligent, independent and beautiful, she feels a social life is not an important part of living. Marcus Cortland is a handsome businessman who, after starting his IT company from scratch, has turned it into a multimillion dollar gem. He is very much interested in Sabryna but makes a colossal mistake in refusing to take "no" for an answer when he approaches her initially. Sabryna is not interested in acting on her attraction to Marcus or in any relationship in general. Despite her cynicism, she observes that Marcus is admired and respected by his peers. When accidents and death threats invade Sabryna's life because of her association with Marcus, they both have to deal with the shadows of the past. Is love strong enough to conquer all?

Jasmine Alexander has written a great romantic suspense novel with
RISK THE HEART. All the characters are well developed in the story so that you are not bored with a chapter here or there. Sabryna and Marcus are strong, intelligent and independent characters, but both are lacking emotional connections. Sabryna's problems started with her mother's death, which caused her father to get absorbed into himself with his own pain. He forgot he was still a father with a daughter who needed him. Marcus's issue was the person he idolized and loved the most; his father fell very short of his expectations. Because of this, Marcus couldn't give of himself to another, which led to deadly consequences.

Once again, not resolving the past can cause a person to shy away from meaningful relationships due to trust and self doubt. They constantly second guess the intentions of another person and are unable to share themselves fully. The story does a great job of highlighting what can happen when issues are not properly addressed before a person becomes involved with another person.
