REVIEW:

In SAY YOU NEED ME, Kayla Perrin gives readers a very tender and passionate story of love and family devotion.  Gently sprinkled with a touch of mystery and adventure, SAY YOU NEED ME is bound to dazzle readers for years to come.

The fast-paced romance adventure is appropriately set in the streets of Miami.  It is here that the story’s hero, Darrell Montford has traveled in hopes of finding his twin brother, Cecil, who has gotten into some type of trouble.  Darrell is unaware of just how serious the trouble is until he meets the story’s heroine, Serena Childs.  The usual sparks of passion that one would expect in a love story do not take place when the story’s hero and heroine first meet.  A victim of Cecil’s latest con, Serena is far from cordial when she meets Cecil’s identical twin, whom she believes to be Cecil.  It is this meeting - one filled with hostility, anger and rage - that is the powerful springboard from which Ms. Perrin propels the remainder of her story.

SAY YOU NEED ME could not have been more appropriately titled as we watch the characters struggle with the attraction they feel for each other; an attraction that neither Serena or Darrell want to admit exists.  In matching together a very unlikely couple, Serena a sweet, innocent librarian, with Darrell, the brother of the man who has stolen both her money and a valuable family heirloom, Ms. Perrin shows that love does not always make sense.  In fact, she shows just how sneaky love can be when it unexpectedly taps one on the shoulder and takes over the driver seat.

If Ms. Perrin had merely told Darrell and Serena’s story, she would have told a good story, however, readers will get two delightful stories in one when they read SAY YOU NEED ME.  And it is the subplot characters that help transcend this book from good to excellent.  The subplot shows Serena’s sister, Kiana Childs and her ex-boyfriend, Geoff Winters, as they too are tormented with their obvious love and desire for each other, and all the complications of having to admit that desire.  Ms. Perrin handles both the main story and subplot with such skill and grace that the stories serve as a perfect complement to each other.  It is this skilful handling that shows just why Ms Perrin has been hailed as a writer to watch by her fellow peers.

Ms. Perrin paints realistic characters that readers will have no problems relating to and identifying with.  Readers are bound to enjoy the excitement as they watch the characters develop and answer the same questions that many have had to answer in relationships:  Do I follow my heart or my head?
