REVIEW:  Readers, get ready for another page turner by Ms. Adrianne Byrd. SHE’S MY BABY is the tale of opposites attracting and like yin and yang they find harmony despite their differences. I read the entire novel while on vacation in Jamaica with my hubby. To say the least, I had some explaining to do.

The story begins with Leila Owens a CEO of a successful magazine who has neither romantic attachments nor children and considers her life quite perfect. Garrick Grayson is an architect who enjoys his life but would love to have a wife to treasure and kids to nurture. To sum it up, his life is not yet perfect. Leila’s life is rudely interrupted after she receives an unexpected Christmas basket loaded with a baby. Unable to cope she recruits the help of her sexy neighbor Garrick who for an unattached bachelor has the parenting thing down to a science. As Leila watches baby Emma fall in love with Garrick she falls for him too.

Caught in a life she claims she never wanted but has come to enjoy, Leila balances family and a career until Emma is taken away. Devastated by the loss she gives up on love and on Garrick because he is now a painful reminder of a life she believes is not meant to be. The only thing standing in the way of Leila having that life however is Leila. Once she opens her heart the possibilities for happiness are infinite.

Like a 100 meter race at the Penn Relays the novel moves at a fast and fun pace with many hilarious and touching moments along the way. At no point was I content to put the novel aside except at the last page and then with some regret to see the story end.

The characters are all very amusing and captures attention. Leila is like a rose, beautiful despite her sometimes sharp tongue and if the world only had more men like Garrick, a true trooper, putting up with Leila’s mood swings. Baby Emma will also steal your heart with her adorable antics.

Atlanta, Georgia is a place where many young professionals are living the American dream and the perfect setting to envision a woman of color operating her own business and likewise a success brother looking to share his life with one special lady. The dialogue throughout is very entertaining and especially so the exchanges between Leila, no light weight and Garrick who holds his own matching her word for word.

What did I not like about the novel? Absolutely nothing! I loved every single page and Ms. Byrd has once again produced a very satisfying read. Get ready to laugh, cry and celebrate the union of a really unforgettable couple.
