REVIEW:  Monette Victor vows to rebuild her life as a free woman. She has just been released from prison. In the process of writing a tell all book, Monette has her own radio talk show, and an unexpected new love in the making.  She is quickly becoming the hottest sister in the city of Baton Rouge.

Monette is assigned to The New Beginnings safe House for women. There she encounters many obstacles, and her new housemates are a bit challenging as well. As she gets into her daily routine, Monette meets the handsome Jayson Odum. Jayson is a successful businessman, a father and all the women are after him, but he seems to only have eyes for Monette. As their relationship grows, Monette begins to have doubts.  The bad choices from her past relationship plays a heavy part in how she relates to her to Jayson.

The story flows extremely well and the description of the setting gives the reader great insight into the interactions of the characters. The reader is provided with strong well-rounded characters who are by no means perfect and clearly make mistakes throughout the novel, which allows us to see each individual character grow and accept responsibility for their past mistakes and attempt to move forward with their lives.

Ms Emery also gives us the opportunity to revisit with several characters from one of her earlier novels, ALL I WANT IS FOREVER, and as usual they are wonderfully developed and add a unique flavor which brings this compelling story together.

I enjoyed this novel and felt that I was able to follow the characters and issues from beginning to end.  Readers will walk away from SOULFUL STRUT with a profound respect for Ms Emery’s literary talent.
