SERIES ROMANCE |4| Ashley Haney

REVIEW:  In SPOTLIGHT ON DESIRE, Anita Bunkley introduces us to heavily sought after actress Jewel Blaine and rising director Taye Elliott. Jewel plays Caprice Desmond on an all black daytime soap, The Proud and The Passionate (P & P). Taye has just completed the last sequel in a straight to DVD action movie series. A tragic accident throws Jewel and Taye together in a strictly professional relationship. But as the chemistry builds both on and off the set, Taye and Jewel have trouble avoiding the personal aspect of their relationship.

Jewel Blaine has made it her philosophy to never mix her professional life with her personal life. She is the star of the P & P, and she always gives 110% to her craft and her fans. After the loss of her producer and the fact that her shows ratings are slipping fast, Jewel makes it her mission to do all she can so that the P & P will be a success. With Taye as the new director, Jewel is forced to admit that an off screen romance is just what her life has been missing. Taye Elliott is on a mission to prove to himself and his family that he can make it in Hollywood. The former med student quit school in his last year to become an actor. After a horrendous accident as a stunt double, Taye begins his career as a director. When Taye meets Jewel, he is determined to make himself her leading man off the screen. But will his lies of omission coupled with Jewels messy past force them to quit while they’re ahead or will they turn the spotlight of love on themselves.

The story takes place in Hollywood. The couples relationship develops as they visit Taye’s ranch called Double Pass. The dialogue flows well and is an essential part of the story. The supporting characters help us understand the main characters.

Anita Bunkley did a good job writing this novel. Jewel and Taye have careers that are not often discussed and Anita does a good job of exploring their career and the obstacles that they face.
