~ Review: Star Crossed ~ |
|
April
seems to be the month for intrigue as Francine Craft has written a mystery full
of twists and turns and unexpected drama. Star Crossed is the story of Fairen
Wilder and Lance Carrington, two people with a rich history and long held
attraction who finally find peace with each other. Fairen’s
marriage ended in divorce after the tragic death of her only child.
Lance’s ended in tragedy and suspicion when his wife, Fairen’s
fraternal twin sister, was murdered. He
was cleared of the murder, but the townspeople in Crystal Lake have always had
their doubts about his innocence. Now
he is back in town to care for his ailing father. When he and Fairen are reunited, the secret attraction they
have always felt turns into love. But
until the mystery surrounding her sister’s death is solved, they can never
find peace. Fairen, a part owner of
the local newspaper re-opens the investigation into her sister’s death only to
find that things are never what they seem to be, especially in matters of the
heart. Someone
knows the truth behind what happened and that person, or persons, is willing to
kill again to keep the dark secret buried in the past.
Lance and Fairen are both put in jeopardy, as they have to fight not only
for their love, but also for their lives. This
is a crisp, fast-paced book that actually kept me guessing until the end and I
pride myself on being able to ferret out the villains.
Convincingly written with attention to detail and authenticity
throughout, this is by far Ms Craft’s most daring and absorbing novel to date.
Cheers to her for bringing forth a scintillating tale that sizzles and
tantalizes the reader all the way to the end.
