REVIEW:  From a long-buried secret that will bring the paternity of not one, but two women, to light, to a parishioner whose long awaited love match may be thwarted by resistance from an unexpected source, hidden truths are coming to the surface. But most shocking of all is that Clarence's own father, Reverend Marshall Walker, may not be the pious figure he claims to be.

REVIEW: Vanessa Davis Griggs continues her “Blessed Trinity” series with the sixth installment of
THE TRUTH IS THE LIGHT.  Clarence Walker is the son of Reverend Marshall Walker returning to God yet not to his father’s church. As the newest member of Pastor George Landris’s Followers of Jesus Faith Worship Center, Clarence recommits his life to God and prepares for baptism. Refusing to see Clarence’s baptism as a second chance, Reverend Walker blames Pastor Landris for Clarence’s defection. Emanating with jealousy and contempt, Reverend Walker sets a plan in motion to destroy Pastor Landris, all the while forgetting the skeletons in his closet. Gramps, a.k.a “Ranny,” (Ransom Perdue) is Clarence’s soon to be 100 year old grandfather, who discovers that his “Wings of Grace” box holds more family secrets and revelations than he could ever imagine. Johnnie Mae Landis continues to connect the dots piecing together the revelations held within the “Wings of Grace.”

Gabrielle Mercedes of “Grace and Mercy” returns, facing many trials and tribulations as her love match with Zachary Morgan continues to flourish, despite Zachary’s mother’s determination to destroy their relationship. Gabrielle’s aunt CeCe, and family takes using and abusing Gabrielle to another level as they arbitrarily land on Gabrielle’s doorstep using Jesus as their calling card after being evicted. Truth comes to light when Gabrielle travels to Chicago to Zachary’s aunt and her mentor Esther Crow, who questions why Gabrielle never attended Juilliard School of Arts after she paid her tuition in full. Thoughts of deception and lies follows Gabrielle home to question aunt CeCe about her acceptance letter, forgery and criminal charges filed for tuition paid and refunded without Gabrielle’s and Esther’s knowledge.

The Truth is the Light is a well written, fast pace, emotional story, filled with strong storylines backed up by scriptures preceding each chapter. Chapters that overflow with contempt, anger, jealousy, abuse, and blackmail that are ultimately defeated by God’s healing, love, forgiveness and acceptance. Setting the story in Birmingham, Alabama, strengthens the historical aspects of the book and allows the reader to revisit and catch up with many of the strong and colorful characters from Vanessa’s previous “Blessed Trinity” novels. Vanessa Davis Griggs solidifies the old adage of…Whatever is done in the dark will always come to Light!

THE TRUTH IS THE LIGHT is a wonderful story of family love and commitment overcoming secrets and lies that began with the life of their 100 year old Patriarch and ended in a celebration of his life. I highly recommend this book, however, not without highly recommending reading the previous books in the “Trinity Series” first!
