A BITTERSWEET LOVE (NA)

SECOND CHANCE AT LOVE (4+)

PLOT SYNOPSIS:  In the sleepy town of Damascus, Florida, Police Chief Kerry Everett investigates the murder of a local man and calls in the FBI to help
capture the killer.  When Special Agent Maceo Kent arrives, he rekindles Kerry's memories of the training they shared in the Marines years ago - an one unforgettable night of passion.

Once again we get to visit the wonderful town of Damascus where the Everett family resides.  Sheriff Kerry Everett is at a point in her life where she is contemplating whether she will ever know the joy of a loving husband and children of her own.  But Kerry doesn’t have the time to dwell on her personal life when a murder is committed in Damascus.  She is determined to find the killer, never dreaming that it would reunite her with the only man she ever loved.

FBI agent Maceo Kent couldn’t believe it when he saw Kerry’s name listed as the reporting officer on a case, which fit the MO of a serial killer they were tracking.  He was sent to Damascus, undercover, to investigate it.  It had been 10 years since they parted but he never forgot her or what they shared.

As Kerry and Mac search for clues of the killer’s identity, they rediscover their feeling for each other.  Kerry fears a separation in inevitable once the case is solved and decides to just enjoy the time they have together.  Mac has more long term plans in mind, but he knows that Kerry would never leave her family.

Both Mac and Kerry had never gotten over ending their relationship, but could they trust in their newly found love again.  Had they grown enough to really make it work this time?  I enjoyed the interaction between Kerry and Mac.  The depth of their love was clearly one that had stood the test of time.

The secondary characters were just as richly developed as the main characters.  Their myriad appearances significantly added to the story.

The sub-plot was intriguing with several secrets revealed.  The identity of the killer isn’t a surprise, but the funeral scene is.  Ms. Sims always knows the appropriate place to throw in a bit of humor where it is least expected.  And it always works.
