REVIEW: THREE WISHES by Janice Sims is a
beautiful depiction of the restorative power of love.
Atlanta based attorney, Sunny Adams has never met her birth parents and
after 28 years there seems little hope she ever will. Imagine her
surprise when a handsome stranger shows up on her doorsteps announcing
that he knows her mother. Jonas Kane doesn’t feel loved by his
workaholic father and if not for his stepmother, Audra Kane, he would
never know how it feels to have someone care for him. When Audra begs
him to travel to Atlanta to meet her daughter and break the news of her
parentage, he is more than willing to go on her behalf.
Jonas is immediately taken by Sunny’s inner and outer beauty and extends
his time in Atlanta while she is working on a volatile murder case. As
Jonas spends more and more time in Sunny’s presence, he realizes that
despite having never been in love, he has fallen for Sunny. The only
problem is that Sunny believes what they feel is no more than a healthy
dose of sexual attraction. Disappointed by her response, Jonas must be
patient while Sunny comes to terms with her feelings and realizes that
lust might make her toes curl but it doesn’t explain the flutter in her
heart.
The story progresses rather rapidly from the revelation of Sunny’s
parentage to Jonas and Sunny’s meeting and instant attraction. There are
some very titillating love scenes sure to get the reader’s attention and
several subplots also make for entertaining reading.
The characters are vividly depicted and very likeable. Many more
characters just as important as the main characters are also mentioned
in the novel. Sunny and Jonas are not the only ones smitten by love
before the last page.
Most of the story unfolds in Atlanta, GA but there is a climatic ending
in Beverly Hills, CA. The popular locales aid in creating a backdrop for
the story that adds to its believability. The dialogue between the
characters is spirited and I particularly liked Audra and Sunny because
they are very vocal women who say what they mean regardless of its
political correctness.
There is a strong element of suspense in the novel but the romantic
elements are most noticeable. THREE WISHES is very intricate but
it reads very easily and I enjoyed watching the plot thicken then
unfold. I would certainly recommend this book as I enjoyed reading it.
