REVIEW:  Mariah Stevens has been a Book Review Editor at Spirit Magazine in Manhattan for years. When the owner decides to retire, Mariah has her sights set on moving into that position. She is shocked to discover that not only will she not be getting the job, but she also will be amongst the nations unemployed when the magazine folds.

Mariah has always been ashamed of her dark skin and nappy hair. She remembers being teased unmercifully by the kids at the private school she and her sister attended, but what she remembers most is feeling as if she was never worthy of her mother’s love. It isn’t until she accidently discovers that her mother hasn’t told her the truth about her biological father, that her life takes a drastic change.

UNBEWEAVEABLE is set in Manhattan, Houston and Memphis with a cast of characters that you will love and hate. Mariah, however, is the one you may start off hating, then understand her, cry for her and love her in the end. The supporting characters will make you laugh and cry as they divulge their deepest secrets and become vulnerable before your eyes.

Ms. Spencer has written a story that shows what happens when people don’t follow their hearts; treat their children with respect while loving them for who they are and forget how to forgive. This is a book belongs on your “keeper” bookcase.
