REVIEW:
Alicia Archer is the full-figured cooking diva who
started her own company to help cope with the death of her husband. She has
since turned that company into a media conglomerate and herself into a media
darling, but Alicia is hiding a secret about her health from the public at
large. Lauren Jules Jones is the hotshot television producer who convinced her
company to take a chance on Alicia. She’s in the process of her third divorce
and drowning her sorrows at a popular restaurant when she meets the love of her
life. Gabrielle Blanchard was born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she’s
had to live with her very petite mother’s disapproval about her looks all of her
life. After her divorce, Gabby decided to put her degree to good use and opened
the highly successful Blanchard Gallery.
WAITING FOR MR. DARCY is an interesting tale of three women, all over the age of
forty and living in the New York area, who have developed a life-long friendship
while attending boarding school. These mature, full-figured women are successful
in their professional lives, but their love lives are seriously lacking. They
will drop everything to lend their support to each other when necessary.
Especially when Alicia’s reputation comes under attack when she becomes ill
during Gabrielle’s much awaited showing of up and coming artist’s to watch.
They, along with Alicia’s family and her nemesis turned lover/neighbor, Dr.
Nathaniel Becker, lend their love and support when Alicia finally decides go
public with the news of her illness.
I really like the fact that Ms. Canton created a cast of characters that
everyone will be able to relate too. Their self-esteem and relationship issues,
familial and otherwise, are easily related to real life situations.
She has taken a multitude of characters and woven them together seamlessly. I
also enjoyed the fact that each woman had her own story-line.
It’s nice to see a romance for women over the age of forty, and I would
recommend this book.
