REVIEW: Devon Mitchell is an intelligent man who lets his hormones get the best of him through a woman named Candace. Even though he eventually corrects the error of his ways and breaks things off with his gold digger, she refused to go away. A freak accident changes his life and torments his future because he feels he is responsible for the death of his girlfriend.

Needing to get away, Devon goes to his Uncle’s farm in Illinois and plans to stay there until he can make decisions about his future. His hiatus is short lived, however, when he finds out that the Art Gallery that was left to him by his beloved grandmother is in financial difficulty and strange mishaps have occurred. Devon travels to Washington D.C. to investigate what has happened to his legacy and find out who is responsible.

Jayde Seaton is the Assistant Director of the Well’s Gallery and is primed to become its newest Director or so she thinks. Her meeting with Maxwell Shaw not only upsets her but she has to see someone else named the new Director of the gallery. Jayde is not only livid, she knows this man and plans to make his life a living hell for stealing her job. Initially she makes his life miserable but things backfire and she loses her heart. What will his past cost?

I really enjoyed reading this debut novel by Lisa Y. Watson.
WATCH YOUR BACK touches on people having to deal with the effect of loss, lies and deception in their lives. Devon feels the loss of his unborn child and feels responsible for the death of another. Jayde is dealing with the loss of an anticipated job and lashes out when she sees her opportunity go to another. The supporting characters, Devon’s family members, Jayde’s mother and friend Christy are the voices of reason. They are also supportive when Devon’s past becomes a danger to Jayde…or is it truly Devon’s past?

WATCH YOUR BACK will have you reading it all in one sitting. A good first release for Lisa Y. Watson.
