REVIEW:  Caryn Stewart and Will Proctor are two peas in a pod. As a powerful investment banker, Caryn’s career has been the closest thing she’s had to a relationship in the past five years. Climbing the corporate ladder is almost an obsession for her and not even Will’s steamy kisses can seem to break this hold. Dr. Will Proctor has seen first hand what completely giving your heart to a woman can do to a man. He has vowed to never allow himself to get too attached to any one woman and has even established rules to ensure this outcome. When Caryn visits her best friend for a long overdue vacation, Will is a distraction she does not anticipate. Their attraction throws them both for a loop and makes these two jaded lovers rethink all of their rules.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about these two characters. They are both head strong and determined, without coming across as abrasive. Even Will’s arrogance is endearing because he seemed to be able to back up every word. Their dialogue kept me turning the pages, even into the wee hours of the morning. Ms. Rainey is gifted at creating heroes and heroines that we love. Will’s resistance to relationships does an about face without the melodrama of a big speech or grand gesture. He simply realizes what he wants and goes for it. I have to say that I fell a little in love with Will myself and could not fully understand Caryn’s reluctance to go full speed ahead in a relationship with him. But alas, I am the reader and not the author who skillfully brought these two characters full circle.

The supporting cast offers some insight, especially Caryn’s parents. We never really got past the surface of Will’s family, but this doesn’t stall the story. Will’s partners in his practice offer a lot of comic relief. When I wasn’t fanning myself from the heat coming off the pages, I was wiping my tears from laughing. I really believed in Will’s love for Caryn and I could feel her struggle and emotions. This book is just right for the beach, with a cold fruity drink next to you to cool you down.
