REVIEW:
HBIC college grad Indigo Burns has beauty, charm,
wit, talent, a partial scholarship to a prestigious graduate school, an enviable
internship, and an impromptu marriage proposal. Starting with a 35mm camera at
the age of ten, Indigo honed her photographic skills into an art form with her
life’s goal to shoot fine art images for magazines and museums and still life
for movies. Inde is being pressured, for the sake of love and convenience, to
forego her dream and marry Brian Harper sooner than later.
Handsome, buff, college grad Brian Harper has been accepted into OCS in pursuit
of his life long aspiration of becoming a pilot and astronaut, but needs Indigo
Burns as his wife now. Why the rush? Is love Brian’s only motive for a speedy
marriage?
Stacy Hawkins Adams did a great job of writing and defining the characters in a
setting that was too much of a utopia, Jubilant, to be believable. The contrast
of the small southern towns of Tuskegee and Jubilant to the more cosmopolitan
New York provided more intrigue. The portrayal of the characters as good people
with endearing qualities served as reminders of people we know or would like to
get better acquainted with and have as an ally. Themes of love, trust, honesty,
faith, protection, fidelity, sickness, and miraculous recoveries, as well as
secrets and lies are a common thread throughout the story. WORTH A THOUSAND
WORDS was thought provoking, spiritually challenging, with repeated
admonitions to hold fast to your trust, faith, and sensitivity to God’s
guidance. I especially loved the insightful way the author focused on intuition,
foresight, prompting and signs, as important tools to be used in making
decisions and choices as the story revealed complex villains.
Although an enjoyable read, WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS was a bit slow
predictable and anti-climatic. As the second book in the Jubilant Soul series,
the book is a good teaching tool that contained tidbits that make it a great
gift of wisdom to share with the young ones who will eventually face many hard
choices in life.
