CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
REVIEW: THE ART OF LOVING YOU by Natasha Bishop is Book #2 in The Forever Falling Series and follows Dani Jenkins and Micah Wright, two characters readers may recognize from the wedding party in Book #1, ONLY FOR THE WEEK. This novel can be stand-alone, however, readers familiar with the series will appreciate seeing these side characters’ stories.

This is a second-chance romance that explores love, grief and healing. As the story unfolds, readers learn that Dani and Micah have history and were introduced eleven years earlier by their mutual friend, Tanya. Through a series of flashbacks, Bishop gradually peels back the layers of their complicated history, and how life circumstances kept them apart.

The loss of Tanya, who was dear to both Dani and Micah, is the focal point for the story. As they work together to fulfill Tanya's final wishes, they are forced to confront not only their grief but also the unresolved feelings they have for each other. The instructions Tanya leaves behind create a lot of heartfelt moments.

Dani and Micah both have emotional struggles. Dani carries trauma from her past that continues to affect her relationships and sense of trust. Micah is dealing with the emotional burden of supporting his sister Bailey who has a chronic illness. I appreciated that Bishop addressed mental health through therapy and support groups and showed genuine care for her characters well-being. The romance between Dani and Micah is a slow burn. It’s evident that they still have feelings for each other. They try to keep their distance but are drawn to each other and there is also forced proximity.

Similar to
ONLY FOR THE WEEK, the supporting cast is strong. There are updates of the friend group from the wedding. We are also introduced to Dani and Micah’s family, with whom they both have strong relationships.

While I enjoyed the story overall, the pacing occasionally felt drawn out. Overall, Ms. Bishop balances romance with deeper emotional themes. The tribute to their dear friend was so meaningful. I recommend
THE ART OF LOVING YOU.
